Omelette Table
Asymmetrical and Social Design
Created by Modulor, Omelette is a playful and functional peninsula table designed to meet the need for an asymmetrical surface, combining a wider, more comfortable section with a narrower part that can be placed against a wall.
Today, choosing a table can be challenging, as many decisions are influenced by trending shapes and materials. This project of mine was born not only out of the need for a shaped table but also from the desire to introduce a distinctive element into the home environment. Its flowing form, reminiscent of a fried egg, provides comfort at every point, optimizing the ergonomic space dedicated to each person while offering, like all round shapes, the flexibility to accommodate more diners. This is where the "oriental-inspired" idea of the rotating central yolk comes from, symbolizing conviviality and sharing.
The Omelette table features a central cylindrical support and two legs on wheels, allowing it to be easily moved to the center of the dining area and then repositioned against the wall. In the first images, you can see the version with a top coated in GetaCore® (a 3 mm thick solid surface slab made up of one-third acrylic resin and two-thirds rock mineral) in white, set at a 45° angle with a shaped cut also on the underlying wood, lacquered in the same color. The central "yolk" is made of orange-lacquered wood, rotating on a swivel support, and can be removed and used as a cutting board made entirely of wood. The central cylinder and two legs are made of polished steel, with wheels from the OgTM Rotola Collection. The GetaCore® version was presented as a preview at the 2014 Fuorisalone del Mobile.
